About This Course

Our Paediatric First Aid course gives participants the confidence and practical skills to respond effectively to emergencies involving babies and children. Designed for those working in early years and childcare settings, this comprehensive course prepares learners to manage accidents, injuries and medical emergencies until professional help arrives.

Through realistic practical training and scenario-based learning, participants develop the confidence to act quickly, make informed decisions and provide appropriate care when a child needs it most.

This course is ideal for employers, nursery managers and childcare providers who need to meet the first aid requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

It is suitable for nurseries, preschools, childminders, schools, out of school clubs and any organisation responsible for the care of babies and young children. It is also appropriate for anyone whose role requires a recognised Paediatric First Aid qualification.

No previous first aid experience is required.

Our Paediatric First Aid course combines instructor demonstrations, practical hands-on activities and realistic scenarios based on situations commonly encountered in childcare and education settings.

Participants practise essential life-saving techniques using specialist infant and child training equipment before applying their skills through interactive exercises designed to build confidence and competence. Throughout the course, learners are encouraged to ask questions, discuss real workplace situations and share experiences to make the training as relevant as possible.

Training is delivered in a relaxed, supportive environment where every participant has the opportunity to develop practical skills they can use immediately.

Participants are assessed continuously throughout the course using practical exercises, realistic scenarios, instructor observation and group discussion rather than a single final assessment.

Where appropriate, learners will also complete short knowledge checks to reinforce understanding and confirm competence across the subjects covered.

Assessment is carried out by a qualified Skills Shop instructor who holds recognised teaching and assessing qualifications together with relevant occupational competence and industry experience. Continuous assessment allows participants to demonstrate both practical ability and theoretical understanding throughout the course.

Successful participants will receive a Skills Shop Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for three years.

Skills Shop certificates are issued in-house rather than through an external awarding organisation. We believe this allows us to focus our investment on experienced instructors, quality equipment and practical learning experiences rather than annual accreditation fees.

When selecting a first aid training provider, employers should choose one that is competent to deliver training appropriate for their workplace. This includes considering instructor qualifications, quality assurance processes and the relevance of the course. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) places emphasis on provider competence rather than accreditation alone, and childcare providers should also ensure the training meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) where applicable.

I have attended many first aid courses over the years and without doubt this blended course, supported and delivered by excellent tutors has been very, enjoyable, engaging and more importantly the additional valuable information and knowledge shared not always given with other providers was very interesting.
