Boost your confidence in an emergency with our First Aid Awareness course. In just 3 hours, you’ll learn how to respond to common incidents like choking, bleeding, and cardiac arrest. Ideal for workplaces or community groups looking to improve safety.
Our First Aid Awareness course provides participants with a practical introduction to first aid, helping them understand how to respond safely and confidently during common medical emergencies. While this course does not qualify learners as workplace first aiders, it equips them with the knowledge to recognise emergencies, provide appropriate initial assistance and understand when and how to seek professional help.
By raising awareness across your workforce, organisations can improve emergency preparedness, encourage quicker intervention and help create a safer workplace for everyone.
This course is ideal for employers, managers and team leaders looking to improve first aid awareness across their organisation.
It is particularly suitable for businesses wanting all employees to understand the basics of first aid, even where they are not appointed workplace first aiders. The course is an excellent introduction for new starters, office-based staff and organisations wishing to develop a stronger safety culture.
No previous first aid experience is required.
Our First Aid Awareness course is delivered through a combination of instructor-led presentations, practical demonstrations, interactive discussions and realistic workplace scenarios.
Participants are encouraged to take part in practical activities, discuss real-life situations and explore how simple actions can make a significant difference before the emergency services arrive. The training is engaging, workplace focused and designed to give learners confidence rather than overwhelm them with unnecessary detail.
Where appropriate, practical demonstrations allow participants to experience key first aid techniques in a safe and supportive environment.
Participants are assessed continuously throughout the course through practical activities, instructor observation, group discussion and workplace scenarios.
Where appropriate, learners may also complete short quizzes and knowledge checks to reinforce learning and confirm understanding of the topics covered.
Assessment is carried out by a qualified Skills Shop instructor who holds recognised teaching and assessing qualifications together with relevant occupational competence and industry experience. This dynamic approach ensures every participant receives ongoing support and constructive feedback throughout the course.
Successful participants will receive a Skills Shop First Aid Awareness certificate. We recommend refresher training every three years, or sooner where workplace risks or organisational procedures change.
Skills Shop certificates are issued in-house rather than through an external awarding organisation. This allows us to invest in experienced instructors, practical training equipment and engaging learning resources rather than annual accreditation fees.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) encourages employers to ensure employees receive appropriate information, instruction and training to help maintain a safe workplace. When selecting a training provider, employers should choose one that can demonstrate competence, appropriate instructor qualifications and robust quality assurance processes, rather than relying solely on external accreditation.
