Enhance workplace safety and preparedness with our comprehensive First Aid at Work training course. This essential first aid at work training equips your team with critical lifesaving skills, including how to respond to emergencies, use an AED, and handle workplace incidents confidently. Designed to meet legal requirements and promote a safer working environment, our first aid at work course is perfect for employees across all industries. Empower your team to act effectively in critical situations while ensuring your business remains compliant and prepared.
Our First Aid at Work course provides participants with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to respond effectively to a wide range of workplace emergencies. Designed for organisations with higher first aid requirements, this comprehensive three-day course prepares learners to manage incidents until professional medical help arrives.
Through realistic training and practical experience, participants develop the confidence to make informed decisions under pressure, helping protect colleagues, customers and visitors while supporting a safer working environment.
This course is ideal for employers, managers and team leaders who need to appoint qualified First Aiders within their organisation to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
It is particularly suitable for higher-risk workplaces such as construction, manufacturing, engineering, warehousing, logistics, utilities, education and larger organisations where a comprehensive first aid provision has been identified through a first aid needs assessment.
No previous first aid qualification is required.
Our First Aid at Work course is delivered using a highly practical and engaging approach that combines instructor demonstrations, hands-on activities and realistic workplace scenarios.
Participants practise essential first aid techniques using professional training equipment before applying their knowledge through scenario-based exercises that reflect real workplace situations. Group discussions, teamwork and instructor feedback encourage learners to think critically, build confidence and understand how to respond effectively in an emergency.
Every course can be tailored, where appropriate, to reflect the hazards and risks specific to your workplace, ensuring the training is both relevant and immediately applicable.
Participants are assessed continuously throughout the course through practical exercises, workplace scenarios, instructor observation and group discussion rather than relying solely on a final assessment.
Where appropriate, learners will also complete short knowledge checks to reinforce understanding and confirm competence across the subjects covered.
Assessment is carried out by a qualified Skills Shop instructor who holds recognised teaching and assessing qualifications together with the relevant occupational competence and industry experience. This continuous assessment approach ensures learners are supported throughout the course while demonstrating both practical skills and theoretical understanding.
Successful participants will receive a Skills Shop First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years.
Skills Shop certificates are issued in-house rather than through an external awarding organisation. This enables us to invest in experienced instructors, quality training resources and realistic practical training instead of annual accreditation fees, ensuring excellent value without compromising training quality.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) does not approve or accredit first aid training providers. Instead, employers are responsible for selecting a competent provider with appropriate instructor qualifications, quality assurance processes and training that meets the needs of their workplace.
To help maintain confidence and practical competence, the HSE also recommends that qualified first aiders attend an annual refresher session between full requalification courses.
