About This Course

Our Emergency Paediatric First Aid course equips participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills to respond confidently when a baby or child becomes ill or injured. Designed to meet the emergency first aid requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the course prepares learners to recognise life-threatening situations, provide immediate care and support a casualty until the emergency services arrive.

By the end of the course, participants will have the confidence to take prompt, effective action, helping to create a safer environment for the children in their care.

This course is ideal for employers, nursery managers and childcare providers looking to ensure their team can respond effectively to paediatric emergencies.

It is particularly suitable for nurseries, preschools, childminders, schools, wraparound childcare providers and organisations working with babies and young children. It may also be appropriate for staff who require an Emergency Paediatric First Aid qualification to meet the requirements of the EYFS framework.

No previous first aid experience is required.

Our Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is delivered through a combination of practical demonstrations, hands-on exercises and realistic emergency scenarios involving babies and children.

Participants practise life-saving techniques using specialist infant and child training equipment while working through situations they could realistically encounter in their workplace. Interactive discussions and instructor feedback ensure learners understand not only what to do, but why each action is important.

Every session is designed to build confidence through participation, ensuring learners leave prepared to respond effectively in a real emergency.

Participants are assessed continuously throughout the course through practical exercises, realistic scenarios, instructor observation and group discussion rather than relying on a single final assessment.

Where appropriate, learners will also complete short knowledge checks to reinforce learning and confirm understanding of key principles.

Assessment is carried out by a qualified Skills Shop instructor who holds recognised teaching and assessing qualifications together with relevant occupational competence and practical experience. This supportive approach allows participants to demonstrate both practical ability and theoretical understanding throughout the course.

Successful participants will receive a Skills Shop Emergency Paediatric First Aid certificate, valid for three years.

Skills Shop certificates are issued in-house rather than through an external awarding organisation. This enables us to focus our investment on experienced instructors, high quality equipment and practical learning experiences rather than annual accreditation fees.

When selecting a training provider, employers should choose one that is competent to deliver training appropriate for their workplace. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advises employers to consider instructor qualifications, quality assurance processes and the suitability of the training provided. For childcare settings, employers should also ensure the course meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework where applicable.

I have attended many first aid courses over the years and without doubt this blended course, supported and delivered by excellent tutors has been very, enjoyable, engaging and more importantly the additional valuable information and knowledge shared not always given with other providers was very interesting.
