About This Course

Our Emergency First Aid at Work course gives participants the confidence and practical skills to respond effectively when someone becomes ill or injured in the workplace. Designed to meet the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, the course prepares learners to recognise emergencies, take immediate action and provide lifesaving first aid until professional help arrives.

By the end of the day, participants will feel more confident managing a range of common workplace incidents, helping to create a safer environment for colleagues, customers and visitors.

This course is ideal for employers, managers and team leaders looking to appoint Emergency First Aiders within their organisation or improve workplace emergency preparedness.

It is particularly suitable for low-risk workplaces such as offices, retail, hospitality, education and customer-facing businesses. It may also be appropriate for higher-risk organisations where the first aid needs assessment identifies Emergency First Aid at Work as sufficient.

No previous first aid experience is required.

This course is delivered through a combination of instructor demonstrations, practical hands-on activities, workplace scenarios and group discussion to create an engaging and enjoyable learning experience.

Participants practise essential first aid techniques using professional training equipment while working through realistic situations they could encounter in their own workplace. Throughout the course, our instructors encourage discussion, answer questions and adapt scenarios to make the training relevant to your organisation.

Our focus is on building confidence as well as competence, ensuring participants leave ready to act in a real emergency.

Participants are assessed continuously throughout the course using practical exercises, realistic workplace scenarios, instructor observation and group discussion rather than relying on a single final assessment.

Where appropriate, learners will also complete short knowledge checks to reinforce key principles and confirm their understanding. Assessment is carried out by a qualified Skills Shop instructor who holds recognised teaching and assessing qualifications together with relevant occupational competence and industry experience.

This dynamic approach allows participants to demonstrate both their knowledge and practical skills in a supportive learning environment.

Successful participants will receive a Skills Shop Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, valid for three years.

Skills Shop certificates are issued in-house rather than through an external awarding organisation. We choose to invest in experienced instructors, quality training equipment and practical learning experiences instead of annual accreditation fees, allowing us to deliver excellent value without compromising on quality.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) does not approve or accredit individual first aid training providers. Instead, employers are responsible for selecting a competent provider that can demonstrate suitable instructor qualifications, quality assurance processes and the ability to deliver training appropriate to their workplace.

To maintain confidence and competence, the HSE also strongly recommends that first aiders complete an annual refresher session between full requalification courses.

I have attended many first aid courses over the years and without doubt this blended course, supported and delivered by excellent tutors has been very, enjoyable, engaging and more importantly the additional valuable information and knowledge shared not always given with other providers was very interesting.
