About This Course

Our Conflict Management course gives participants the confidence to recognise, manage and de-escalate conflict before it escalates into aggression or violence. Through practical techniques and realistic workplace scenarios, learners develop the communication skills needed to remain calm, protect themselves and achieve positive outcomes during challenging situations.

By improving confidence and communication, organisations can reduce workplace conflict, improve customer relationships and create a safer working environment for employees.

This course is ideal for employers, managers and team leaders who want to equip their teams with the skills to confidently manage challenging behaviour and difficult conversations.

It is particularly suitable for customer-facing roles, healthcare, education, retail,
hospitality, housing, local authorities, security, transport and any workplace where employees regularly interact with members of the public, clients or service users.

The course can be tailored to reflect the situations your employees are most likely to encounter, ensuring the learning is relevant and immediately applicable.

Our Conflict Management course is highly interactive, combining instructor-led presentations with group discussion, practical exercises and realistic workplace scenarios.

Participants explore the causes of conflict, recognise behavioural triggers and practise proven communication and de-escalation techniques in a safe and supportive learning environment. Through scenario-based learning, learners develop the confidence to assess situations, make informed decisions and respond professionally while maintaining their own personal safety.

Every course is designed around real workplace situations, helping participants leave with practical strategies they can apply immediately.

Participants are assessed dynamically throughout the course through practical exercises, realistic scenarios, instructor observation and group discussion.

Where appropriate, learners will also complete short quizzes and knowledge checks to reinforce understanding and confirm learning.

Assessment is carried out by a qualified Skills Shop instructor who holds recognised teaching and assessing qualifications together with relevant occupational competence and practical experience in conflict management. This continuous assessment approach allows participants to demonstrate both their knowledge and communication skills throughout the course.

Successful participants will receive a Skills Shop Conflict Management certificate. We recommend refresher training every three years, or sooner where workplace risks, organisational procedures or job roles change significantly.

Skills Shop certificates are issued in-house rather than through an external awarding organisation. This allows us to invest in experienced instructors, practical workplace scenarios and high-quality learning resources rather than annual accreditation fees.

Under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, employers have a duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees. For organisations where conflict, aggression or violence is a foreseeable risk, providing appropriate conflict management training forms an important part of reducing risk and protecting staff.
