Gain the skills to act fast when every second counts with our Bleed Control Awareness course. This hands on session teaches you how to deal with catastrophic bleeding, apply a tourniquet safely and use wound packing techniques to slow or stop severe blood loss. Perfect for workplaces, schools and community groups, the course gives you the confidence to step in, stay calm and take control of a life threatening situation.
Severe bleeding can become life threatening within minutes. This practical Bleed Control Awareness course gives participants the confidence to recognise life threatening bleeding, take immediate action and use simple bleeding control techniques until the emergency services arrive.
Designed around real life emergencies, the course helps people remain calm under pressure and understand how early intervention can make the difference between life and death. Whether in the workplace or out in the community, participants will leave feeling more prepared to respond when every second counts.
This course is ideal for employers, managers and team leaders who want to improve emergency preparedness within their organisation.
It is particularly suitable for workplaces where employees may come into contact with machinery, tools, sharp equipment or members of the public, including construction, manufacturing, engineering, utilities, warehousing, retail, hospitality, education and community organisations.
No previous first aid experience is required, making it suitable for anyone who may need to respond before the emergency services arrive.
Our Bleed Control Awareness course is delivered in a relaxed, supportive and highly interactive environment.
Participants learn through instructor demonstrations, practical exercises, realistic workplace scenarios and group discussion, helping them understand not only what to do, but why each action is important.
Training focuses on building confidence through hands on practice using bleeding control equipment and everyday improvised methods where appropriate. Realistic scenarios encourage learners to think, communicate and respond effectively under pressure, creating skills that can be applied immediately in a genuine emergency.
Participants are continuously assessed throughout the course rather than through a single final examination.
Assessment takes place naturally during practical exercises, scenario based activities, instructor observation and group discussion. Where appropriate, short knowledge checks may also be used to confirm understanding.
All assessment is carried out by a qualified Skills Shop instructor who holds recognised teaching and assessing qualifications, together with subject specific knowledge and practical experience. This ensures every participant receives professional guidance, constructive feedback and support throughout the course.
Successful participants will receive a Skills Shop Certificate of Attendance following completion of the course.
Although there is currently no nationally recognised validity period for bleed control awareness training, we recommend refresher training every three years, or sooner where workplace risks or procedures change, to help maintain confidence and competence.
Skills Shop issues certificates directly rather than through an external awarding organisation. This allows us to invest in high quality training, experienced instructors and practical learning rather than annual accreditation fees.
When selecting a training provider, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advises employers to choose a provider based on their competence, quality assurance processes, instructor experience and the suitability of the training for their workplace. The emphasis should always be on the quality of the training rather than whether a provider belongs to an accreditation scheme.
