Some substances can prove harmful and hazardous to health including paint, cleaning materials, flour dust, solder fumes, blood or waste.

The law requires adequate control exposure to materials in the workplace that can cause ill health. This means:

  • Identifying harmful substances
  • Risk assessing how workers might be exposed
  • Using control measures to minimise the risk
  • Providing information, instruction and training
