Skull Fracture

A heavy blow to the head from a heavy blow, a fall or collision can cause a depressed skull commonly referred to as a skull fracture.

Most common signs include:

• Evidence of head injury (blood or bruising)
• Blood or bruising
• Clear fluid (cerebral) leaking from the ears or nose
• Possible depression of the skull
• Bloodshot eyes
• Deterioration of response levels

TREATMENT

• Lie the casualty on their back with their head slightly raised (if no spinal injury)
• Control any bleeding using wound dressings
• Call for an ambulance
• Keep them warm
• Monitor their breathing and response levels
