Our Story

This is why we created skillsshop

Let me tell you a bit about how Skills Shop came to be. Back in 2009, we started off by mentoring secondary school students in Barrow-in-Furness. It wasn’t always easy, but it was incredibly rewarding.

Then, in 2016, things took a turn when I lost my sister-in-law, Joyce, who was also a first aid instructor like myself. It hit hard, and it made me reassess things.

Dealing with teenagers’ daily rants was getting old fast, and I knew I needed a change.

The final straw came when a local training company dropped a bombshell, giving me only two days’ notice about my expiring first aid qualification. Their dismissive attitude really rubbed me the wrong way.

That’s when I decided to shift gears and focus on business-to-business training. And you know what? I made a promise to myself to prioritise my clients:

Say goodbye to traditional booking hassles. At Skills Shop, you reserve seats, giving you the freedom to make last-minute adjustments without any hidden fees.

Our Values

At the heart of everything we do is the drive to empower others. We prioritise your team’s needs to ensure they acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive in both their personal and professional lives. Whether it’s first aid training, mental health first aid, conflict management, or workplace health and safety to name a few, our courses are crafted to empower everyone to make a positive impact.

We’re not your run-of-the-mill training provider. We like to have fun with innovative approaches like gamification to make learning interactive and enjoyable. Bid farewell to death by powerpoint; our courses are all about being informative, engaging, and hands-on.

Creating dynamic training environments which encourage practical exercises and lively group discussions, we aim for everyone to learn from each other and feel a sense of belonging to something exceptional.

Our aim is to empower individuals to live their best life which we do by training tomorrow’s heroes.
