Skills Shop began in 2009, working with local schools to support disenchanted students who were at risk of exclusion. We provided extended provision services, showing young people that learning could be different: flexible, supportive, and built around them. Those early years shaped the values that still drive us today.
Skills Shop has always been a family business. In 2016, we faced an unexpected loss when my sister-in-law, who was both a tutor and a newly qualified first aid instructor, passed away. She and I had made a promise: to grow Skills Shop together and bring training to more people who needed it.
Her passing changed everything but it also gave me a reason to honour her memory.
That’s when Skills Shop transitioned from working solely in schools to delivering business-to-business training. Every course we delivered became part of keeping that promise alive and part of the journey we had planned to take together.
Over time, our vision expanded further. We saw how many business owners wanted to share their expertise but were held back by technology, so we developed our bespoke course-building service removing barriers and creating training platforms that let businesses focus on what they do best.
Today, Skills Shop provides health and safety training throughout the UK and offers end-to-end online course creation to businesses worldwide.
Our journey began in classrooms, helping young people who had lost faith in education. That experience shaped the way we work today by putting people at the centre of learning. From the very start, we’ve believed training should be flexible, supportive, and tailored to the learner.
